December 2024 Pixel Drop, or Android 15 QPR 1, is here for Pixel phones. While the update brings many new features, it has also introduced a bug or a new change that is troubling users. After updating their Google Pixel, some users have noticed that the themed icons are showing as reversed in dark and light mode. That means, when switched to a dark theme, the icons appear light. Similarly, when the light theme is enabled, the icons are dark.
A new bug or an intended change?
Is this supposed to be a new change introduced via December 2024 update? While users have identified it as a new bug, it can also be a change that nobody anticipated. Moreover, the themed icons are still in beta, so maybe Google is still testing them out. Whatever it is, seems like Google needs to fix it.
A temporary workaround: Fix reversed themed icons glitch on Pixel phones
On the bright side, users have come up with a temporary workaround that fixes that brings icons to normal. Swapping the color palette once appears to have normalized the themed icons’ appearance. Here’s how you can do it:
- Open Wallpaper and style settings by long pressing on the home screen.
- Click the 3 dots in the color palette selector
- Temporarily swap to a different color then switch back to the current selection. Also, toggle the “dark theme” button on the same page on/off once.
This workaround should resolve the issue for now. Unfortunately, Google hasn’t yet acknowledged this issue. However, we hope that it gets fixed soon.
Other than the theme icons glitch, there are plenty of other ongoing problems troubling Google Pixel users. This include the fingerprint bug after Android 15 update, Gemini not responding, Pixel 9 users reporting GPS inaccuracy glitch, and more.
